Mainz 05 has signed 29-year-old Japanese midfielder Rio Takizawa from SC Sand. The transfer takes effect at the start of the club’s maiden Frauen-Bundesliga season. Takizawa plays in the central or attacking midfield.
Career at SC Sand
Takizawa moved in 2023 from her homeland Japan’s AC Nagano to SC Sand. In the 2025/26 season she was an undisputed starter, playing all 26 matches, scoring two goals and providing five assists. Over three years she made 84 second-division appearances for SC Sand, netting ten goals and delivering eleven assists.
Significance for Mainz 05
With promotion to the Frauen-Bundesliga, Mainz 05 is in its first season at the top level. The signing of Takizawa represents the club’s second external addition for its debut campaign. SC Sand had been in a tight race for promotion until the final matchday of the previous season.
