Mainz 05 delivered a stunning 5-0 away victory against Hamburger SV on Tuesday, climbing to fourth place in the Bundesliga table. Under coach Urs Fischer, the team produced a flawless performance at the Volksparkstadion, leaving the hosts with no answers.
The Nullfünfer made two changes to their starting lineup, with Kacper Potulski and Stefan Posch replacing Dominik Kohr and Danny Da Costa. The early breakthrough came after a mistake by HSV captain Nicolai Remberg. Sheraldo Becker coolly converted the chance in the 20th minute, following a setup by Kaishu Sano. Before halftime, Philipp Mwene made it 2-0 from a Becker cross. Right after the restart, Phillip Tietz sealed the deal with the third goal. In stoppage time, Ransford Königsdorffer added the final touch for the 5-0 scoreline. Get Football News Germany reported that Becker gave his team a deserved lead early on and had a hand in the next two goals.
Sheraldo Becker was named Player of the Match with a rating of 9. He not only scored but also assisted the second goal. Striker Phillip Tietz also received a 9 for his goal and consistent threat. In midfield, Kaishu Sano shone with an assist and a solid rating of 7. In defense, Stefan Posch and Fabio Gruber held the line firmly, each earning a 7. Nadiem Amiri, who had a good chance from a corner in the first half, and Jae Sung Lee were rated 6.
The thrashing is further evidence of Mainz's remarkable rise under Urs Fischer. With four points from two games and a goal difference of +5, Mainz 05 currently sits fifth in the standings. They are just two points behind leaders FC Augsburg. The team is displaying impressive defensive solidity, though they are coping with several absentees. Alongside the suspended Dominik Kohr, Eric Martel, Robin Zentner, Silas, and Silvan Widmer are currently sidelined.
