RB Leipzig is reportedly making progress in securing a transfer for Nadiem Amiri, the 29-year-old midfielder and 13-times-capped German international. According to Sport Bild, Amiri has reached a basic agreement with Leipzig, indicating his keen interest in joining the club despite remaining at Mainz 05 for another season.
Amiri's resurgence at Mainz 05 was first noted by Sport Bild back in March 2025. Despite this, Sporting CEO Christian Heidel had publicly ruled out a summer sale, keeping Amiri with the Rheinhessen until now. The midfielder’s presence could be crucial for Leipzig as he brings Bundesliga experience, technical skills, and leadership to the team.
However, the transfer is contingent on Leipzig first addressing their squad size. With 35 players currently under contract, the club must make several departures to create space for Amiri's arrival. Eljif Elmas, a North Macedonian midfielder who has struggled since joining from Napoli, is among those expected to leave.
Leipzig’s intention is to first reduce their squad size and then finalize Amiri's transfer. This means that the timing of his move remains uncertain until these necessary departures are completed. Once this is done, Amiri could bring valuable experience and quality to Leipzig’s midfield, operating as a deep-lying playmaker or more advanced midfielder.
