Nadiem Amiri is not a big party animal. "I miss my children and my wife. When we land, I will go straight home", said the midfielder of Mainz 05, after the Rheinhessen secured their Bundesliga spot with a 2:1 win against FC St. Pauli. "What the boys do? No idea. They should enjoy it." But Nadiem Amiri already has new goals: We have two games left and I will try to get everything out of these two games to earn six more points and then we will see. Maybe we will be ninth. Maybe Freiburg will win the Europa League. Let's see." The Mainzers are currently in tenth place with 37 points. They could theoretically overtake Eintracht Frankfurt in eighth place in the last two league games against Union Berlin (10.5.) and 1. FC Heidenheim (16.5.). ## Could Mainz 05 even make it to the Conference League? If Mainz 05 were to qualify for the Conference League again on this path, it would be an even bigger sensation than the already secured Bundesliga spot. Because a few months ago, the Mainzers were still at the bottom of the table. They started the second half of the season with only eight points, had parted ways with the emotional coach Bo Henriksen and had set their sights on the more composed Urs Fischer. "We have worked very hard, have worked very detailed, have been on the pitch a lot. Sometimes maybe a bit too long", Amiri remembered. "But you see: It has brought something." With Urs Fischer, the Rheinhessen have started an impressive comeback: "I am happy. In January, many said: Mainz is already dead. Now it's time to go down. Now we've shown it to everyone", said Amiri. "We believed in ourselves." ## Urs Fischer has brought Mainz 05 back on track The new coach has awakened the Mainzers according to Amiri: "Urs Fischer has a huge share. He has brought us out of the hole and given us back our self-confidence. I believe that the second half of the season speaks for itself - also our table position. And to make it happen a few weeks earlier, hats off." When the Mainzer striker Phillip Tietz walked by and Nadiem Amiri laughed loudly and invited him to the team celebration, the 29-year-old had already had a taste of the party: "So I'm celebrating here now and then I'm going home."
