Dimo Wache, once known as the „Krake aus Brake“, reflects on his career and life off the pitch. For 15 years, from 1995 to 2010, goalkeeper Dimo Wache was the face of 1. FSV Mainz 05. As a reliable goalkeeper, he saved the 05ers from relegation to the Second Bundesliga and led the team four times to the First League. In the 2003/2004 season, under coach Jürgen Klopp, the team achieved the long-awaited promotion. Fans affectionately called him the „Krake aus Brake“ – due to his origins on the Unterweser and his strong saves. More than 400 official games made him the record player, for over ten years he was captain, and today he is honorary captain. For years, Wache has lived with his family in Hechtsheim. The Hechtsheimer Ortsgeschichte (VHO) association invites him on Thursday, June 11, as part of the series „What does he do? Prominent Hechtsheimers tell“ at the Christophorushof in Heuerstraße 13. At 7 pm, he will speak with former stadium announcer and „Hexemer Bub“ Klaus Hafner and VHO chairman Ottmar Schwinn about his youth, his path into professional football, and his time at Mainz 05. The event will last about 80 minutes; afterwards, there will be time for the opening of the Football World Cup at 9 pm.
