FSV Mainz 05's promising young defender, Kacper Potulski, has reportedly caught the eye of Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen. Former Schalke 04 defender and current pundit Tomasz Hajto revealed that both clubs, along with others from England and Italy, are closely monitoring the Polish talent, sparking significant transfer speculation.

Hajto, speaking to the Allgemeine Zeitung, emphasized Potulski's immense potential, suggesting that Mainz could one day command a €30 million transfer fee for him. However, the former Bundesliga player stressed the crucial need for Potulski to receive consistent playing time to fulfill this potential.

Despite featuring more regularly earlier in the season, Potulski has recently been an unused substitute in Mainz's last four matches. This lack of involvement has raised concerns for Hajto, who pointed out that the youngster had consistently performed well when given the opportunity, including an excellent display against Hoffenheim.

Hajto openly questioned why Potulski has been sidelined, especially considering that experienced players also made mistakes in recent losses against Strasbourg (0-4), Freiburg (0-1), and Bayern (3-4). He issued a clear warning to FSV Mainz 05, stating that the young player might soon question his future at the club if his playing time remains inconsistent.

Despite the recent benchings and external speculation, FSV Mainz 05's sporting director, Niko Bungert, has publicly reaffirmed the club's long-term commitment to Potulski. Bungert expressed strong confidence in the defender's abilities, stating, "Kacper is the future. He has incredible quality and will feature regularly for us going forward. I am certain of that."

The situation highlights a common dilemma for developing talents at Bundesliga clubs: balancing immediate team needs with nurturing future stars. While Dortmund and Leverkusen's interest underscores Potulski's potential, his path at FSV Mainz 05 will depend heavily on consistent opportunities to prove himself on the pitch.
